Description of the pain?

The patient has a dull 4/10 ache felt at rest on the medial aspect of his knee, with a more intense 8/10 when weight bearing.  It is better with ICE and the use of Advil, and worse with trying to walk.  It hurts when he tries to flex the knee while lying down.

KEY POINTS:  One example: “CHLORIDE”

H – History of prior injury of this area

L – Location of pain

O – Onset of pain

R – Radiation of pain

I – Intensity of pain (out of 10)

D – Duration of pain

E – External influences (What makes it better or worse)
