Neuromuscular Screen

The patient is in pain with knee motion, but has intact 5/5 power at hip and ankle.  Sensory exam is intact (2 out of 2) for light touch and pin prick in all peripheral nerve and dermatomal distributions in both legs.  Reflexes on the opposite knee and at the ankle are 2+.

NOTE: During management of acute injuries parts of the neuromuscular exam may have to be deferred to a later time, BUT it is essential to remember to at least screen for motor and sensory dysfunction on the injured limb.
