Ober’s Test

Ober’s test is used to assess IT band tightness. To perform this test, have the patient lie on the unaffected side. With the knee flexed to 90 degrees, passively extend the hip. Attempt to drop the knee onto the examination table. The test is normal if there is little or no space between the knee and the table. If there is a fist-breadth of space or more between the knee and the table, the patient has an abduction contracture, indicating a tight IT band.
