Belly Press Test

This video demonstrates the Belly Press Test for subscapularis muscle testing. Have the patient have their hand on their belly with their elbow flexed at 90 degrees. The examiner then tries to pull the hand off the belly and externally rotate the shoulder while the patient resists. Watch that the patient does not try to “cheat” by extending their shoulder backwards. If the patient has weakness with this maneuver they may have an issue with the subscapularis muscle or tendon.
